OUR History
2004 brought us together.
The grungy ground of the South Plains Fair was the first place you held my hand. I listened to more fire department lingo than I could ever repeat back. We learned how to be EMTs together and conquered that NREMT on PAPER… because we are that old school. You became a TCOLE certified officer and I continued in my journey to provide the most exceptional patient care I can. Through years of trials and tribulations we took many journeys together to reach the place we are now. That brought us to Central Texas in 2007 and we never looked back. I refuse to say this is our destination, because the road stretches on from here and you can see as far now as you can on a clear West Texas day.
Through the years the two of us continued to look back on the 2 men (ya’ll don’t get jealous now… there are LOTS or people who made us who we are, but for now… we focus on these two) responsible for all this awesomeness. I did not have the pleasure of having Jose I. Rosales in my life for as long as I wish I could have. I will say that I cherish the memories I have of him and I will never forget the look in his eyes when he saw you graduate the Fire Academy or when you had your first badge pinned to that PD uniform. My favorite memory, by far, is the day he got to hold these two precious, ornery, and brilliant children of ours. He played a very important role in making you the man you are and teaching you how to care for this family the way you do.
I wish, more than anything in the world, I would have gotten to see those looks when my PawPaw, Grady I. Davis looked in on my accomplishments. His view is a little higher up than most and with a set of wings, I’m sure, that are as exquisite as he always was. He lead me to believe I was capable of doing anything I set my mind to. I will never forget the times he spent in the hospital, fighting to spend one more day with his family. That is why I chose the path I did. I knew, in that little 9 year old body, when I had to say my final farewell to my hero, that I would be a paramedic, and that every animal I encountered would be given a piece of my heart and soul.
With all of that being said we grew out of the home we brought those little heathens to and built a new one. That was the turning point… that was the most fun, stressful, relaxing, nerve wracking, enjoyable experience I had ever had. It taught me patience… oh, boy did it ever! I taught me how to do things on my own and be resourceful like I never had before. It taught our children how to get their hands dirty and how to listen to directions. And maybe how to get Momma out of a bind when she was the only big kid home and needed a helping hand. That was the stepping stone God put in place to give us what we have now.
The day you called to tell me a ranch was for sale… I thought, never in our wildest dreams would we be those people. There was no way we could be the people in the middle of nowhere, making it on our own, away from “town,” and living my wildest dreams. YOU provided that for US. If you’re still reading, and you’re not bored to tears and you haven’t caught the gist already we decided the only way to properly honor these men, and the lives they have subsequently touched was to name our Ranch Double I Ranch. Thank you for getting out of your comfort zone to fulfill my dreams. “As long as Baby’s happy.” Thank you! I love you!
